The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a major honors show nears, you'll find an outcry for the addition fresh award types to honor unsung work and satisfy the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent small games, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among the most-played games globally continuing this trend for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
