Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
